A： Too much 是一個修飾用的片語，意為「太多；非常，很」，可當形容詞或副詞用，如 He drank too much beer last night. (他昨晚喝太多的啤酒)；She doesn’t like traveling too much. (她不太喜歡旅行)。
然而，儘管 too much/too little/too many/too few (其中 too 為副詞，修飾 much, little, many 和 few) 當形容詞用時，後面可直接接名詞，但這並不表示「too + 形容詞 + 名詞」這種結構可一體適用。非也! 因為 too 不能用於一般形容詞之前，例如我們可以說 The coffee is too sweet. (這咖啡太甜)，但卻不能說 the too sweet coffee。因此，在「too + 形容詞 + 名詞」這種結構中，若形容詞為一般形容詞，則此結構的詞序必須做調整方能合乎文法。例如：
- It was a too good opportunity to miss. (那是一個不能錯失的極好機會) (誤)
- It was too good an opportunity to miss. (正)
- It’s a too cold day. (天氣太冷了) (誤)
- It’s too cold a day. (正)
再者，儘管 too much 亦可當副詞用，但卻不能修飾形容詞，亦即 too much 不能直接放在形容詞的前面，所以問題中的 He is too much intelligent. 是個錯誤的句子，原因可能出在 too much 和 much too 被搞混了。
Too 本身是個加強語氣用的副詞，意為「太，過分」，但其前經常還會使用 much, far, a bit/a little 等副詞來修飾，如 You’re going much too fast, slow down! (你開得太快了，慢一點！)；There’s been far too little rain lately and the crops are suffering. (近來雨水太少，農作物都受害了)；The shirt is a bit too small for me. (這件襯衫對我來說有點太小了)。因此，在 much too 中，much 是做為已是加強語氣用的副詞 too 的語氣加強語。
大家應該知道，too 有個句型相當常用，那就是「too + 形容詞 + 不定詞 (to + 原形動詞)」，意為「太…而不能…」，如 He is too young to go to school. (他年紀太小，還不能上學)。值得注意的是，在「too + 形容詞 + 名詞」結構中，too 不能用於一般形容詞之前，但在「too + 形容詞 + 不定詞」句型中，too一定用於一般形容詞之前。所以，He is too much intelligent. 應是 He is much too intelligent. 之誤。綜上所述，much too 可以說是具有「雙重加強語氣」的作用，以上句為例，它是從 He is intelligent. (他聰明) 加強語氣為 He is too intelligent. (他太聰明了)，再加強語氣為 He is much too intelligent. (他真的太聰明了)。
