(Contractions)

I, you, he, she, it, we 和 they 所構成的縮略形式

‘m = am (I’m)

‘re = are (you’re, we’re, they’re)

‘s = is 和 has (he’s, she’s, it’s)

‘ve = have (I’ve, you’ve, we’ve, they’ve)

‘ll = will (I’ll, you’ll, he’ll, she’ll, it’ll, we’ll, they’ll)

‘d = had 和 would (I’d, you’d, he’d, she’d, it’d, we’d, they’d)

aren’t = are not (we aren’t, you aren’t)

can’t = cannot

couldn’t = could not

didn’t = did not (I didn’t, they didn’t)

hasn’t = has not

haven’t = have not

isn’t = is not (she isn’t, it isn’t)

mustn’t = must not

shan’t = shall not

shouldn’t = should not

wasn’t = was not

weren’t = were not

won’t = will not

wouldn’t = would not

She is not 可縮略為 she isn’t 或 she’s not。I am not 只能縮略為 I’m not,不能縮略為 I’m n’t 或 I am n’t。They are not 縮略為 they aren’t 或 they’re not。 例如:The cakes aren’t ready yet. (蛋糕還沒準備好);She’s not a friend of mine.

My sister’s got married. = My sister has got married.

John’ll be very happy. = John will be very happy.

Here’s the coffee. = Here is the coffee.

There’s your watch. = There is your watch.

Now’s your chance. = Now is your chance.

Where’s the milk? = Where is the milk?

What’s happened? = What has happened?

He’s not free.
He’sn’t free.

A: I think we’re lost.
B: Yes, I think we are. (B:
I think we’re (誤)

A: You’ve contacted Joan, haven’t you?
B: No, I haven’t. (B:

I’m getting a pay rise, aren’t I?
I’m getting a pay rise, amn’t I?
