  • I don’t like either color.
    I don’t like either colors.
    I don’t like both colors.
  • John studied chemistry and physics, but he had little interest in either subject.
John studied chemistry and physics, but he had little interest in either subjects.
John studied chemistry and physics, but he had little interest in both subjects.
  • Either candidate would be ideal for the job.
Either candidates would be ideal for the job.
Both candidates would be ideal for the job. (正)
  • There are three cars on either side of the river.
= There are three cars on each side of the river. (正)
= There are three cars on both sides of the river. (正)

Either

  • A: What color footbeds/insoles do you want, gray or brown?
    B: Either. It doesn’t matter. (B:
  • John: Do you prefer beef or pork?
    Jack: I don’t like either.

在 the、these、those 及所有格 + 複數名詞的前面須使用 either of,其中 of 不可省略。例如:

  • I don’t agree with either of my parents on these issues.
I don’t agree with either my parents on these issues.
  • Either of the students can do this part-time job.
Either the students can do this part-time job.

Either

  • There’s no answer to that question either.
  • I don’t eat mutton and my wife doesn’t either.
  • If Amy doesn’t go, I won’t either.

必須注意的是,與 “both … and …”、”neither … nor …”、”not only … but also …” 等一樣,”either … or …”

  • Her leggings are either red or yellow.
  • Mary’s going on a business trip to Japan either today or tomorrow.
  • You can stay either with me or at/in a hotel.
  • Either you leave now or I call the police!
  • We can either eat now or after the concert.
We can eat either now or after the concert.
We can either eat now or eat after the concert.
  • Either you or your father can make a large donation in your mother’s name.

Either you can get there by train or you can take the bus.
