Those who 的句型

Those (people) who = They/People who = Such (people) as + 複數動詞 – 意為「凡是…的人們」。這是 those who 的複數句型，但我們亦可用下面的單數句型來表達相同的意思：He/One who = Anyone who = Whoever + 單數動詞 – 意為「凡是…的人」。請看下面的例句：

Those who have money do not want for friends. (凡是有錢的人都不會缺乏朋友)
= Such as have money do not want for friends. (在這句中，as是當關係代名詞)
= He who has money does not want for friends.
= Whoever has money does not want for friends. (Whoever = Anyone who)

下面兩句分別是 those who (主格) 的受格 those whom 和所有格 those whose的應用：

No distance can sever those whom the fate unites. (有緣千里來相會)
Almighty Heaven is not indifferent to those whose hearts are earnest. (皇天不負苦心人)

Cut…in half, in thirds, in quarters, etc.

Half 是單數，它的複數是 halves，如 Both halves of the game were played in poor weather. (這項比賽的兩個半場 — 即上半場和下半場 — 都是在天候不佳的情況下進行)。然而，在表達把東西切成、鋸成或劈成兩半或兩等分時，英文是寫成 cut…in half (如 She cut the apple in half. — 她把蘋果切成兩等分), saw…in half, split…into half，而不是 cut…in halves, saw…in halves, split…into halves。不過，這一「規則」並不適用於三等分、四等分…等等，所以「她把蘋果切成三等分/四等分」要寫成：She cut the apple in thirds/quarters.。雖然 cut…in half 中的 half 必須用單數，但我們可以將此片語改為 cut…in two (halves)。

既然談到兩半，就不能不提「另一半」。夫妻在別人面前互稱對方另一半，而這「另一半」的英文叫做 better half，複數為 better halves。
