- That my son has passed all the exams makes me feel very happy.
= It makes me feel very happy that my son has passed all the exams.
- That he lost his job suddenly worried his parents very much.
= It worried his parents very much that he lost his job suddenly.
- That she did not go to Cindy’s birthday party surprised everybody.
=It surprised everybody that she did not go to Cindy’s birthday party.
- The fact that my son has passed all the exams makes me feel very happy.
- The fact that he lost his job suddenly worried his parents very much.
- The fact that she did not go to Cindy’s birthday party surprised everybody.
- Rachel was absent due to the fact that she was sick.
- The father was worried over the fact that his son was suddenly taken ill.
- But for the fact that you helped me, I would not have succeeded.
- Carl had to face up to the fact that his family disapproved of his plan.
- The bad weather is responsible for the fact that the attendance at the party is small.
- I know nothing about him except that he lives next door.
- Gary has no special fault except that he drinks too much.
因此，這些動詞 (如 contribute, describe, dislike, escape, face, make, prevent, speak, summarize, want) 若要接 that 子句，則可借助 the fact 結構以使其合乎語法要求。如：
- Linda dislikes the fact that her husband smokes.
Linda dislikes that her husband smokes.
- We were lucky to escape the fact that we were punished.
We were lucky to escape that we were punished.
- We must face the fact that our son might fail the General Scholastic Ability Test.
We must face that our son might fail the General Scholastic Ability Test.
Accept, admit, announce, answer, ask, assume. authorize, believe, claim, command, complain, consent, consider, contest, declare, decide, decree, demand, demonstrate, determine, deny, desire, dictate, direct, discover, discuss, doubt, examine, expect, feel, find (out), forget, grant, guarantee, hope, ignore, imply, indicate, insist, know, move, notice, observe, order, overlook, permit, propose, prove, recommend, regret, remark, report, request, require, say, see, show, specify, suggest, suppose, think, understand, urge, wonder 等等。例如：
- We have to admit that Benson’s a highly competent man.
- We decided that Anna must stay here.
- I regret that you see it like that.
