這是個美國成語，字面意思為「貓王已經離開這裡了」或「貓王已經離開現場了」，意思是說表演已經結束，不會再有安可 (encore)，大家可以散場回家了。現今這個成語則用來比喻「某事已經結束」。2004 年美國亦有一部同名喜劇電影，中文片名為《戀上冒牌貨》。
貓王艾爾維斯•普萊斯利 (Elvis Presley) 是美國二十世紀中期最著名的流行歌手之一。在他的演唱會中，粉絲們會尖叫、暈倒，並想方設法接近他。Elvis has left the building 於 1956 年由美國播音員 Horace Lee Logan 在 Louisiana Hayride Radio Program 節目中首次說出，當時他請求貓王的死忠粉絲們坐下來並保持安靜，再多的尖叫聲也無法喚回貓王再獻唱一曲，因為他已經離開現場。
