All’s well that ends well

All’s well that ends well 是個非常古老的諺語,意為「結果好就一切都好」。這意思是說一件事情在開始或中間或許有些環節會出現小差錯或麻煩的狀況,但只要最終的結局令人滿意,就是件好事;換言之,只要結果成功,過程中的是是非非、紛紛擾擾就無關緊要,不必太在意。

All’s well that ends well 源自大文豪莎士比亞 (William Shakespeare) 1623 年出版的同名喜劇 (這齣喜劇名稱的中文翻譯為《終成眷屬》)。然而,它早在大約 1250 年就已出現在詩作中。這諺語中的 all is well,意思就是「一切都好」,如 I hope all is well with your father. (我希望令尊一切安好)。
