Sackcloth and ashes

這個慣用語源自丁道爾 (William Tyndale) 1526 年的聖經譯本 (《馬太福音》第十一章第二十一節,Matthew 11:21):”They [the cities Tyre and Sidon] had repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes.”。

  • Kevin has been wearing sackcloth and ashes ever since his wife divorced him for cheating on her.
  • What I did to Linda’s child was terrible, and I’ve been in sackcloth and ashes ever since.
