God helps those who help themselves 是個諺語,意為「天助自助者」或「自助者天助之」。西元前 428 年古希臘詩人歐里庇得斯 (Euripides) 所著的著名悲劇《希波呂托斯》(Hippolytus) 中就已表達了這句諺語背後的意涵:”Try first thyself, and after call in God; For to the worker God himself lends aid.”。
不過,這句諺語確切的用字遣詞是由英國政治家阿爾格農‧西德尼 (Algernon Sidney) 在 1600 年代寫下的。
