Fit the bill 和 fill the bill 為兩個同義的慣用語，意為「符合要求；符合需要；與目的相符」。
Fit the bill 於 20 世紀初期開始使用，但在 20 世紀中期聲名大噪，廣泛流行。它比 fill the bill 來得常用許多，知名度也高出許多。Fill the bill 則比 fit the bill 要古老許多。這個慣用語於 1800 年代中期開始使用，它們皆與劇院有關。
在這兩個慣用語中，bill 這個字是指用來宣傳劇院演出陣容的廣告或海報，用法與 on the bill 相同，如 There were lots of big names on the bill. (有很多明星參與演出)。Bill 亦可當動詞用，意為「做廣告；透過廣告宣傳」，如 The young painter was billed as “the new Renoir.” (這位年輕畫家被譽為「新雷諾瓦」)。
