To back the wrong horse 和 bet on the wrong horse 為同義詞，意為「下錯了賭注；押錯了寶；看錯人；做了錯誤的決策或決定」。它們源自賽馬，指賽馬時下錯了賭注，亦即自己所下注的馬跑輸了。
