Wait 還是 wait for 呢?

  • They waited hours to get the tickets for the exhibition.
They waited for hours to get the tickets for the exhibition. (正)
  • I waited 30 minutes for the bus.
I waited for 30 minutes for the bus.

  • Money in not everything but nothing can be done without money.
  • I like to drink coffee without sugar.

  • Henry left us without a word.
Henry left us without word.
  • He can do mathematics without a calculator.
He can do mathematics without calculator.
  • Don’t go out without an umbrella. It’s raining cats and dogs.
Don’t go out without umbrella. It’s raining cats and dogs.

Get 還是 go 呢?

  • I’ll call you as soon as I get to Seoul.
I’ll call you as soon as I go to Seoul.
  • The thing is, he got to work late and missed part of the on-the-job training.
The thing is, he went to work late and missed part of the on-the-job training.

上下公車、巴士、火車和飛機要用 get on 和 get off,不能用 go on 和 go off。例如:

  • When Jack got on the plane, there was someone sitting in his seat.
When Jack went on the plane, there was someone sitting in his seat.
  • I will be waiting for you when you get off the train.
I will be waiting for you when you go off the train.

Such 還是 so 呢?

Who’s 和 whose 的差異

Who’s 為 who is 或 who has 的縮寫,而 whose 為 who 的所有格,通常位在名詞前面,但它還可用作關係代名詞。

Who’s

  • Who’s coming to fix the computer? (正) - Who’s = who is。
  • Who’s Mary talking about? (正) - Who’s = who is。
  • Who’s eaten the last apple? (正) - Who’s = who has。
  • Who’s John brought to my class? (正) - Who’s = who has。
  • Whose John brought to my class?
  • You’ll soon know who’s who in this department. (你很快就會知道這個部門裡面誰是誰) (正) - who’s = who is。
    註:Who’s who 也是個片語,意為「名人錄;(總稱) 名人」,用作單數,如 a who’s who of the fashion industry (時裝界的名人錄)。

Neither of ≠ Both (of) + not

  • Neither answer is correct.
  • Neither of the answers is/are correct.

  • Sophia loves music, but Mary loves dance. (蘇菲雅愛好音樂,但瑪麗喜愛舞蹈) (正) - Sophia loves music. 和 Mary loves dance.
  • I have called Cindy, and she has confirmed the date of the meeting.
  • I have called Cindy, and confirmed the date of the meeting. 這只是將 “called Cindy” 和 “confirmed the date of the meeting” 這兩個項目列在一起。
  • His sister’s had an accident at work, and she’s had to go to hospital.
  • We had dinner and then went to the movies.

  • That is a situation Ted has not thought of.
  • Mary is a person her husband cannot cope with.
  • It is behavior anyone will not put up with.

  • Taylor or his wife is going to pick up his parents at the airport.
  • The twin brothers or their sister are going to pick up their parents at the airport.

  • We value our Clients’ opinions.
  • I have their latest Brochure on vacations abroad.
