The temperature dropped to 2 C (or 2 °C) Saturday night.

(現在是零下 8 度);The temperature is still minus three.

  • The temperature will rise steadily to a maximum of about 15 C (or 15 °C) tonight.
  • The mercury dropped last night.
  • The temperature is getting higher and higher.
  • The temperature is getting hotter and hotter/warmer and warmer.
  • The temperature gets lower as altitude gets higher.
  • The temperature gets cooler/colder as altitude gets higher.

A:etc. 是拉丁片語 et cetera 的縮寫,意為「等等;以及其他事物」(and other things, and so on, and so forth, and the rest)。 This book is by Bush, Obama, et al.

  • The flower show featured roses, peonies, chrysanthemums, and etc.
  • The flower show featured roses, peonies, and chrysanthemums, etc.
  • The flower show featured roses, peonies, chrysanthemums, etc. (正)
  • The students can take part in singing, etc.
  • The students can take part in singing, dancing, etc.

我們可以使用意為「例如」的 for example 或 such as 來列舉,但使用了 for example 或 such as 之後,就不能再使用 etc.,因為在同一句子中,for example 或 such as 與 etc.

  • I can play quite a few musical instruments, for example, the flute, the guitar, the piano, etc.
  • I can play quite a few musical instruments, for example, the flute, the guitar, and the piano.
  • Some of the European languages come from Latin, such as French, Italian, Spanish, etc.
  • Some of the European languages come from Latin, such as French, Italian, and Spanish.

Did your mother tell you that we’d better buy tea, coffee, sugar, etc.?

prolly

  • That prolly is the reason he left in the first place.
  • I’m prolly going to the movies today.
